Haney, Dillin and Cuidera begin a really odd two part story in Blackhawk 237 (Nov. 67). Considering how utterly bizarre this book has become, calling it odd is saying a lot.
The story opens as we see the villain, Barbarossa, killing Johnny Vak, an agent of GEORGE, the same group that the Blackhawks now work for, and telling Vak that the Blackhawks were behind his death.
Mr. Delta then hauls in the Blackhawks for questioning, and one by one they relate their part in the mission. Each claims innocence, but Mr. Delta twists things to make it look like each was intentionally sabotaging Johnny's mission.
Why he went to all this trouble is far from clear, as Mr. Delta then bring the Blackhawks further into the lab, and shows them that Johnny Vak survived. He was really an android the whole time. Johnny is sent back out after Barbarossa, while the Blackhawks are yet again written off as incompetent, and dropped into a pit.
The Blackhawks get out of the pit and decide to go give Johnny Vak back-up. But when they catch up to him, they discover that Johnny is really working with Barbarossa. Oh no!
The story concludes in the next issue.
