Kamandi - the Last Boy on Earth 52 - who took Ben Boxer?

Jack C Harris takes over the scripting with Kamandi - the Last Boy on Earth 52 (Aug/Sept 77), while Ayers and Alcala stay on the art.

Returning from burying Arna, Kamandi and friends discover that Ben Boxer is missing. He collapsed and was taken away by two metal men. Kamandi assumes that these would have been Steve and Renzi. He intends to go find his friend, but Pyra, having received a message from her home world indicating she desperately needs to find the energy from the Great Disaster, has to go off on her own quest, so they split up. Spirit decides to accompany Kamandi.

Meanwhile, Sacker brings together a group of Kamandi haters. Great Caesar and Ramjam are there, which makes sense. Trap represents the Barracuda, although we had not been introduced to him before. At first glance, the other member's name seems to be Sultin, but it's Sultan. That's a bit odd, considering there is already a character named Sultin, but he is a lion friendly to Kamandi, while Sultan is a leopard.

They hire a detective dog, Mylock Bloodstalk, and his sidekick Doile, to hunt down and kill Kamandi.

Kamandi follows Ben's trail, but he and Spirit wind up captured by Aztec bird things, which look kind of cool. They are going to sacrifice the two humans until bats attack. Kamandi helps fight the bats, and then drives them off using the gong. So the birds decide not to kill them, and let them go on their way.

The story continues in the next issue.
