Michelinie and Chan conclude the quest for the Grimstone in Claw, the Unconquered 7 (May/June 1976).
The story begins with Claw and Ghilkyn battling some really nasty seaweed, which is doing its best to kill them. This proves to have been animated magically, by the wizard working for the evil king, although neither Claw nor Ghilkyn find this out. They get rescued by some men in a ship, who bring them to their underwater city.
The inhabitants of this city are pacifist magicians. They retreated from the world above long before, disgusted with how violent it had become. The spell that keeps their city alive under the sea is powered by the last remaining part of the Grimstone. Claw explains to them why he needs it, but they refuse to give it to him, as they do not condone violence, even against giant demons ravaging the land.
Claw and Ghulkyn almost come to blows over this. Claw thinks that he should just steal the stone, as he needs it so desperately. Ghilkyn does not agree, as stealing the stone would kill all the people in the city. Their fight gets interrupted when a monster, magically evoked by the evil king's wizard, shows up to try to kill them. Claw uses the stone to kill the creature, and intends to just keep it.
The head of the underwater people decides that they cannot avoid violence, no matter how hard they try, and they city willingly allows itself to die, rather than go on living in a violent world. Claw gains respect for them, where he had considered them cowards before. The evil king gets all mad at his wizard for failing again, and the wizard seems to have had enough of the king's shit.
As the issue ends Claw and Ghilkyn assemble the three parts of the Grimstone, which allows them to head into the void to get the magic sword.
The story continues in the next issue.
